Out of the Margins Festival
The Out of the Margins Festival: Music by BIPOC, Women, and Nonbinary Composers (for Piano or Voice) is new to the East Portland District in 2026! This festival is a way for us to expand the canon to include composers that are often underrepresented in our studios and recital halls. It allows students to perform and receive adjudicator’s feedback on pieces chosen from any era: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist or Contemporary. Please see our Repertoire Resources Document for repertoire ideas. Note for voice students participating in the festival: Folk song arrangements and aria piano arrangements are acceptable. You can bring an accompanist or sing with a recording.
This is a non-competitive festival open to any students of piano or voice. All performers will receive feedback and coaching from our adjudicator along with their certificate.
We welcome participation from students across Oregon. OMTA members of other districts can register their students with no extra fee this year.
